On the road again

Monterey is INCREDIBLY
easy to get to!

There's three basic destinations in Monterey:

- the dive site (usually Breakwater)

- the motels

- the Escapade (or other boats)

Other dive sites

Here's how you to get there!

the dive site (Breakwater)

- From the Bay Area
Via Hwy 1
Piece of cake! Just hop on Hwy 1 going South. Once you hit Monterey, take the SECOND Del Monte Ave Exit (the one that says "To Monterey and Pacific Grove"). Stay on Del Monte Ave until you go through the tunnel. Immediately after the tunnel, get in the right lane. Take the next right, and an immediate right again (at the sign that says "to San Carlos Beach"). Try and get there early, as the lower lot fills up quickly. We'll meet on the grass right next to showers (just above the stairs to the beach).

Via 101 or 280
Take I-280 to Hwy 85 S. to Hwy 101 S. (or just hop on 101 to begin with). In Prunedale, take 156 W. to Hwy 1 S. to Monterey. Take the SECOND Del Monte Ave Exit (the one that says "To Monterey and Pacific Grove").

- From the dive motels (Fremont St)
Head south on Fremont Street to Hwy 1 South. Now, we're never really going to get on Hwy 1, but stay with me here. Stay in the right lane of the on-ramp. It immediately turns into an off-ramp for Camino Aguajito. Take this exit, and make a right at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Take Camino Aguajito to Del Monte Ave, where you'll make a left.

The motels
Most of the motels that divers stay at are on Fremont St in Monterey. To get to Fremont St, follow the directions above to get to Monterey. Instead of taking Del Monte Ave, though, take the following exit - Casa Verde Ave. At the stop sign on the bottom of the exit, make a left. The next light will be Fremont St. MOST of the motels are to the left, but a smattering are to the right.

The Escapade (or Beach Hopper, Monterey Express)
From Hwy 1, take the SECOND Del Monte Ave Exit (the one that says "To Monterey and Pacific Grove"). Stay on Del Monte Ave until you see a McDonalds restaurant on left. Continue to the large sign which identifies Fisherman's Wharf (Figuroa) and make a right. You will be going toward wharf #2. Before actually going on the wharf make left into the parking lot area (L,M,N O & P lots). You will see a large 2 story building with the London Bridge Pub on the bottom level (to the left of the wharf) . Pull along the waterfront near the steps that lead down to the walking path (about 100' to the left of the Pub). After removing your gear to the large concrete area overlooking the water...immediately park your vehicle and return to the staging area where a crewman will meet you at:
-
7:30 am (Sat/Sun morning charter)
- 12:30 pm (Sat/Sun afternoon charter)
- 9:30 am, boarding at 9:45 am (weekday charters).

Please do not board the vessel until requested to do so by the crewmembers.
